Two Bangladeshi workers were killed after they were run over by a truck at Mandai construction site in Singapore on Thursday, according to Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore.
The deceased were identified as Anis and Nur-e Alam who hailed respectively from Munshiganj and Dhaka, said Bangladesh labour counselor Ayesha Siddiqua.
She told New Age over phone that two dead bodies would be sent home back on Saturday (today) by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The labour counselor told New Age that the victims’ family would get compensations after completion of some paper works in Singapore.
According to a report of The Strait Times in Singapore, a tipper truck while reversing in Mandai Depot ran over the duo.
This is the second reported fatal accident this year at the depot work site, owned by Thomson-East Coast Line.
The workers were taking a nap on the ground when a lorry reversed over them, according to an ST reader who did not want to be named.
‘They were both sleeping on the ground after lunch. But they were not supposed to rest there. The lorry didn’t see them and reversed into them,’ said another worker.
