Narayanganj city corporation mayor Selina Hayat Ivy said on
Wednesday she would not vie for the mayoral race should her party, Bangladesh
Awami League, take a decision otherwise.
Talking to reporters at her city corporation office, Ivy,
also the vice president of Narayanganj district AL, hoped that her party will
make give her nomination for the mayoral race in the 22 December election.
As per the party rule, the Narayanganj city unit of ruling
AL on Tuesday sent a list of three prospective mayoral candidates to the
central committee of the AL but the list did not include the name of Ivy.
When her attention was drawn to the decision of the local
AL, Ivy said, “A section of the local Awami League has done this. We all
know [who did this]. Narayanganj people know it as well.”
She said she has nothing to say about the decision of the local AL.
