Charge sheet against Badrul for hacking Sylhet girl

Police on Tuesday submitted charge sheet against Badrul Alam, former student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), in connection with the attack on Sylhet college girl Khadija Akter Nargis.

Investigative officer Harun-ur Rashid, sub-inspector of Shahparan police station, submitted the charge sheet to the Additional Judicial Magistrate of Sylhet around 11:30am.

On 3 October evening, Khadija Akter Nargis, 23, a student of Sylhet Government Women's College and resident of Hausa village in Sylhet Sadar upazila, was stopped on her way home from college by Badrul Alam, 30, assistant secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League unit of SUST.

Badrul hacked Khadija indiscriminately, leaving her critically injured. Khadija was admitted to Square Hospital in Dhaka. Badrul was arrested and sent to jail.

SUST authorities suspended Badrul Alam for attacking Khadija.

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) condemned the attack on Khadija and denied that the alleged attacker, Badrul Alam, was an activist of the organization. As Badrul was employed as a teacher of Alhaj Ayajur Rahman High School in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj district, there was no relationship between Badrul and the BCL as per as the rules and regulation of the party, a BCL press release said.
